Ten days ago, I returned to Hope later in the morning for a walk. I didn't bring my camera and, of course, regretted that when I caught a glimpse of an orange-winged bird back in the woods, a bird I had never seen before.
I have been looking for him ever since and found him this morning, flitting about like a hummingbird. He wasn't as orange as I remembered, but the orange stuck out on him as most of his body was black.
He's an American Redstart. The males are this color, black with grey bellies and orange-yellow wings and tail feathers.
He's beautiful.
