If tonight you find yourself unable to sleep, lying awake in bed, watching the shadows sweep across the ceiling with each car whose headlights pass by the open window, if tomorrow you find yourself … lost, for a moment, stopped and still in the kitchen, at the mailbox, at the front door, with tears in your eyes and you can’t quite say why, if you find your heart racing, this morning, if you find your hands trembling, my prayer for you is this: That the Lord would take your hand in His, that He would put His hand over your heart, that He would wipe away all your tears, that He would quiet your restless mind in the times when you feel most alone and abandoned, that He would still your quivering spirit with these words, whispered to and imprinted on your very soul. Time to Diversify Our Spiritual Investments

The other day when I had my endoscopy, the thing I was worried about the most was my glasses. I am blind without my glasses. I know a lot of people say that and they mean that they have bad vision, but ask me, if you see me, about my vision, and I’ll hand you my glasses, otherwise known as the pound of plastic that rests on my nose. I have some seriously thick lenses. They used to call them “coke bottle” lenses. My eyes are so bad that when I went to eye doctor recently, and I was sitting there waiting for him to examine me, he looked at me and the glasses on my face and seriously asked me if I was wearing contact lenses. That’s how bad my eyes are—that I’ve reached a point where the doctor thought I have to do both glasses and contacts in order to see. So having to turn over my glasses to a stranger right before my endoscopy was the thing that caused me the most anxiety. Would I get them back right away? What if they were lost? Trust Fall

Lord, I listen for You in the silence, in that place so still a whisper seems like a roar, in that place so quiet that I wince and cringe with each step I take, because I can hear each fragile blade of grass shatter like glass beneath my feet. For I know, Lord that no matter how fierce the storm that swirls around me, no matter how dark the shadows that creep upon me, no matter how intense the fire, or how deep the water, I will find You, Lord in that silence. I will close my eyes. I will shut my ears. I will lift my hands and fall backwards into Your embrace, because I trust You, Lord. My times are in Your hand. O Lord, let Your face shine upon me. Save me now with Your endless mercy. Amen Psalm 31:14-16
