Before the rain

Before the rain falls,
the tree dips a branch into
the water and drinks.

Before the rain falls,
lonely beads sway in the wind
flashing Christmas red.

Before the rain falls,
the rabbit lifts its ears and
waits, waits and listens.

Before the rain falls,
I circle the church and pray
and watch for the sun.
