There are so many spider webs draped over the trees and leaves and ferns and anything that stands still long enough for the spider to weave that I have started to wonder if autumn's mother nature is not simply some version of Miss Havisham, bitter and desperate to freeze time, pushing back against tomorrow.
And so I ask, as a matter of perspective, is the fallen leaf in this picture trapped? Or has it been caught and saved from trampling or decay on the ground?
