How did Jesus die
and the world not stop?
How did the sun
find the strength
to rise that next day?
How did the trees
remember to breathe?
How did anyone find
it in themselves to open
their eyes again after surviving
the longest night?
How precious are we to God?
Jesus died
and somehow, the next day,
the world did not end.
Life continued and flourished.
Eggs hatched and tiny chicks
took their first wobbly steps
through puddles of fresh rain.
Jesus’ death could
have broken the world.
Instead his death
mended the world,
healed Eden’s wound
with the promise of Sunday morning.
