Surviving

It was cold this morning and very quiet at church.

There were a few birds, none that could sit still.  They flew from branch to branch, chortling and chirping, trying to stay warm.

The only other animal I saw was this small rabbit, keeping warm the way I've seen my cats do, by balling themselves up and puffing out their fur so they look twice their size.

There are animal dens all over the property, frequently empty and I wonder what drew this rabbit out this morning.  Would it have been better to stay in and keep warm?  Or had it headed out early for the same reason I do, to beat the crowds, to enjoy some peace and quiet?
