Sometimes when I'm walking the grounds at Hope, I feel like I'm stepping through into other worlds.  Animals and birds appear as if by magic.  I almost stumble over them.  I was ten feet away from this bird before I saw him.  It was the first time I had seen him at Hope.  I also discovered a new path today, recently cleared and took it even though the ground was uneven and the surroundings unfamiliar.

Today is January 28.  I always seem to know that even before I look at the calendar.  Today is the anniversary of the Challenger disaster and as both a teacher and someone who once dreamed as a child of going to Space Camp, I grieve for what happened that day.  I will always grieve.

They were the ultimate explorers, testing the boundaries of earth and the heavens.
